Cyber Security is of utmost importance , especially in the current climate we are in .
At the end of Module 5 ,we had a zoom session with the creator of CyberCats and it was a very imformative session .
There was much to take away from the session especially the fact that our personal safety on the internet was literally in our hands . Over the last few years we have seen an increase in negative cyber activity and its scary to say the least ,how difficult it is becoming to tell real from fake .
With all the safey nets in place ,hackers still seem able to get through with duplicating messenger and fb accounts , duplicating authentic business emails , stealing data ,and trying to woo the unsuspecting with scams and fake dating sites .
The host for the session encouraged us to strenghten our passwords and did an exercise to show us how to compose stronger alterantives , sexykitten6 isnt a strong password , its suggested using letters , numbers and symbols in and uncommon sequence would be harder to guess eg, q2@uest_9%, she said we should avoid using birth dates and begining with the current year ,but make sure to memorize it
I have had the unfortunate experience of having to be locked out of my gmail account due to suspicious activity and not remembering my new password ,so at the moment can only access gmail on my phone ,but getting it back on my laptop would require a couple tedious task .
For those of us who consistently use the internet we would know we are constantly bombarded in recent times with emails and test messages that we have won millions from Samsung and no matter how you block and delete they find a way to pop up .
One of the saddest things is hear stories of older women being scammed of thousand of dollars seeking love on dating sites ,only to be seduced by some handsome wealthy hunk who suddenly has banking issues , so they run to the rescue because he promises to make their every dream come through.
We really have to be extra cautious especially when doing online banking transcations ,that our passwords are not saved automatically by google .
I found it to be timely even as we put our initatives out there seeking investors and collaborations with seemingly legit companies, doing proper reserach and background checks , to ensure authencity .
She also warned about being careful of what you post on FB as certain images can never really be deleted
All in all extreme caution is the key
