S.E.T.U.P is an Acronym meaning Sustaining, Empowering, Transitioning U Purposefully SetUp is word used in the Caribbean as they would say, its local Palance to express being disappointed by someone. Let's say you made a plan to go to the beach you got ready, cooked got drinks and donned your swimwear and waited hours and the person didn't show up. Next time you saw them, you would say.. You are a real set up.. Or you Set Me Up. SETUP can also be used positively, it could describe as a positive effort by someone to help another achieve their goals
Fuelled by my own experience with the difficulties leaving an Abuse marriage and the constant spiralling of the Deaths by Domestic Abuse of women in my small Island , this dream and purposeful vision has been planted on my heart, to set up an eco system, Field of Dreams where sustainable fashion and Art is the platform to provide mentorship and skills training to empower women and girls ,surviving or desirous of fleeing the trauma of Domestic Abuse situtaions and now further impacted by the economic fallout of this pandemic.
Our long term goal for , Field of Dreams, will be to provide Easy to access ,secure Transition Housing, Holistic Transformation , an Empowerment and Training Center, a Creative saloon, a Retreat and Eco Lodge and Short Term starter housing on our sister Isle which can be built on # to 5 acres of land with the rain forest as a backdrop , ,and beaches close the ideal theraputic location for our target group.
Our short term goals include distribute continuing to assist these women and girls one individual at a time by raising awareness with my post here on World Pulse , Collecting donations for our Our Cute Care Bags Campaign as there's a urgent need for them especially now, in vulnerable communities, as many have lost jobs and income due to the economic fallout of the pandemic and Govt assistance is slow and frustrating. Our bags were sent out to the Island of St Vincent last year during the devastion of a volcanic euption on the island and were recieved with much appreciation.
Each bag cost 20 US to pack and is filled with Sanitary napkins, deodorant s, hair care products, skin creams, wet wipes, hand sanitizers bath soaps, bath rags and dental care supplies. The bags are made from scrap material s and recycled denim jeans In the last year we also collaborated with our sister NGO of which I am an active member , Green Army Trinbago ,which focuses on sustainable agriculture , we have been promoting a A GROW YOUR OWN FOOD CAMPAIGN encouraging communities to grow their own food , by providing free seedlings and other agri supplies along with advice and support
Coming out of the Change Makers Lab Training I futher strenghtened my proposal and is moving forward to registering as an NFP entity , the logo has been designed, the tagline constructed , we already have T-shirts available by order as a way of fund raising . As a sustainable fashion designer , I have been conducting research into the value of the banana plant and the results are phenomenal, its not new, but its in demand in the fashion industry, as we move towards a circular economy , its achievable and its just right for diversifying our economy, using sustainable fashion. Our 2023 Campaign ........We are currently working on another project in collaboration with Green ArmyTT to utilize land belonging to them to start a long term crop project including the banana,s . As we await this to yield we will collaborate with our frist people community who are traditional weavers , to utilize the fibers extracted from the banana stalk to produce in the frist instance designer jewellery, handbags, home furnishings ,craft Items and eventually fabrics . We will source our raw materials from existing banana farmers. The women from this community can produce the items as groups and be paid for their production, whereby providing employment within the communities. Markets will be sought for these items, locally, regionally and Globally, through trade fairs and retail markets the ITC trade of which I am a member ,also via our online Instagram Store which is already set up, to sell our merchandise. The above project is two fold as it will also involve encouraging young men and women in the community to consider sustainable agro as an entrepenural alternative , we will patner with professionals to provide tutoring on , entrepenurship, successful small crop production , self enhancement and goal settings, amoung other things ,this will run on two months cycles .I will also utilize training modules from the WP Trainathon like entrepunurship .
Markets will be sought for these items, locally, regionally and Globally, through trade fairs and retail markets such as ITC trade hub , and Exportt of which I am a member ,also via our online Instagram Store which is already set up, to sell If you have read this far , I applaud you , and encourage you to share , donate ,support my initative and if you want to patner own a piece of my Island .The following are ways of connecting
