SET UP, INIATIVE UPDATE NO.1

Our Cute Bags Campaign

Hi my amazing World Pulse sisters, thank you for the encouragement towards my iniatative so far We have started sourcing funds and donations to a second distribution of our Cute Care Bags as there's a urgent need for them especially now, in vulnerable communities, as many have lost jobs and income due to the economic fallout of the pandemic and Govt assistance is slow and frustrating. Our bags were sent out to the Island of St Vincent last year and were recieved by over 50 women, who were displaced due to the volcanic eruption on the island, with much appreciation, we would like to reach out to our women and girls who are in vulnerable (,of the communities on the island. Each bag cost 20 US to pack and is filled with Sanitary napkins, deodorant s, hair care products, skin creams, wet wipes, hand sanitizers bath soaps, bath rags and dental care supplies. The bags are made from scrap material s and placed in food hampers given out by our partner NGO. Our long term goal is to establish an eco system, Field of Dreams, which will house an empowerment and training center, a creative saloon, a retreat and Eco Lodge and Short Term starter housingRecently we collaborated with a local agri group called Green Army, they provide, mentorship on starting container gardens within limited space, and community gardens, training and resources. We will collaborate to facilitate the start of my project to produce a crop of banana plants on land belonging to them, I would serve as lead for a community garden in the same space and producing short and medium term crops, so I'm seeking further collaboration to purchase seedlings, plants and have the two lot area fenced. We will also construct a stand with two water tanks for use in wetting crops Produce from the community garden will be shared with those in the community and a portions sold to raise funds for purchase of a Banana Fiber Extractor Once all goes well later on 2022 we will begin the programme with our migrant women, who are traditional weavers, to utilize the fibers extracted from the banana stalk to produce in the frist instance jewellery, handbags, home furnishings and craft Items. We will source our raw materials from existing banana farmers as well and use a government resource center for our workshops. As said in our frist post of our iniatative, we will work with women and girls in this community to setup cells where they can produce the items as a group and be paid for their production, whereby providing employment within the community Markets will be sought for these items, locally, regionally and Globally, through trade fairs and retail markets also via our online store which is already set up, to sell art work I presently create as part of fundraising efforts. Your support would be deeply appreciated. https://www.instagram/setuptrinidadmerchhttps://society6.com/christiquechristiqueclothing@gmail.com
