Let's log on and rise up: Time to go digitALL

A good decade ago, my grandmother stood in my balcony wearing a crisp cotton saree, standing before a phone camera. "I SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!" She said with conviction, looking right into the camera.

Just that afternoon, she had seen my post from an organization I volunteered for calling for videos from people world over, saying No to Violence against Women.

In 2011, when she saw my brother with an iPad in hand, her first question was not "What is that?", but "Can you teach me to use it?"

In the months that followed, she learned to use an iPhone, an iPad, and a laptop. She would sit down with me at my desk, furiously devouring all that the Internet had to offer her: be that a recipe for Baklava or Tweeting to her favorite Bollywood actors and waiting for their reply.

I would make notes for her in a notebook, leaving instructions on navigating cyberspace. Today, the notebook outlives her. She passed on in 2013. A decade later, her legacy outlives her. On the eve of another IWD, her granddaughter holds her memory dear as she works with her safe space, World Pulse, to build Digital Empowerment Training Modules.

In the spirit of keeping that legacy alive, here is my dream: 2500 women world over complete trainings by the end of 2023.

YOU have a pivotal role to play in this journey. Sign up for a training, complete it, get your certificate, and watch the numbers for this initiative rise!
