story

Let's make sure the incredible women we so rarely see on the internet today are recognized and acknowledged.
Join World Pulse and our #shetransformstech partners whoseknowledge and Take Back The Tech! for the #visiblewikiwomen Edit-a-thon! From 9 - 12 May, we're gathering virtually to upload quality images of women to the public domain.
This year, World Pulse’s #shetransformstech campaign is pleased to join this annual event to bring together Wikimedians, feminist and women’s organizations, and cultural institutions in a worldwide effort to reduce the gender gap and the lack of women images in the biggest online, free encyclopedia. The event ensures that women, especially black, brown, indigenous and trans women, are visible on Wikipedia and the broader internet.
When you join, you'll learn tips and tricks for uploading images on Wikimedia Commons (the image file repository for Wikipedia), and you'll help upload quality images to the public domain, under free license, to the Wikimedia Commons under the visiblewikiwomen category. These images could be photographs or drawings of women, as well as images of their work, with proper consent.
The event starts with a quick training on how to upload images to Commons on Saturday, 9 May. You'll have a few days to upload images, and then on Monday 11 May, we'll come back together for a group conversation to share our experiences about participating.
