WORLD LITERACY DAY: TODAY A READER, TOMORROW A LEADER



International Literacy Day is celebrated annually on September 8th. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of literacy and promoting literacy as a fundamental human right. It also aims to highlight the progress made in the field of literacy and the challenges that still need to be addressed.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established International Literacy Day in 1965. Since then, various organizations, governments, and communities around the world have been actively involved in activities and campaigns to promote literacy.

The theme for International Literacy Day for this year is Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies'., to focusing on different aspects of literacy and education a unanimous decision must be in place. The day serves as a reminder of the essential role that literacy plays in empowering individuals and communities, fostering economic development, and promoting social inclusion which women and girls must be the most beneficiaries.

Mordecai Care Foundation of Nigeria is celebrating International Literacy Day as her custom often include educational programs, awareness campaigns, workshops, and events aimed at improving literacy rates and ensuring that people of all ages have access to Quality Education. These activities contribute to the global goal of achieving universal literacy and education for all in Sustainable Development Goals SDG'S.
