Words are Also Actions

I am saddened by the people who shrug off insulting words, as if they have no impact. When confronted with the power of words, many deny that they can be weapons, until the words are used against them. I am angered by what passes for humor or piety in many communities, be they families, religions or social groups. I have spent my life attempting to uplift others and hoping that I, and those under my protection, would be treated by others as I treat them. This has not always been the case.
It takes great courage to stand up to bullies. Those who call themselves our friends will often side with those who use bullying to instill fear. While my children were dependent on me, I had my hands full with simply attempting to protect them. I also tempered my anger in order that they would not be persecuted for my actions. My children are grown, as are some of my grandchildren. They share no names with me. I am now free to speak out as strongly as I feel compelled to do without fearing reprisal toward my most loved ones.
We are all born as animals. Humans have a choice to become something more. Only through lives, including words, of responsible compassion do we build truly full humanity.
Leadership through fear has been the way of patriarchal religions and governments. Mothers know what it takes to lead by bonding, and we must be willing to teach this in order to save our global society from annihilating itself.
I taught a daughter who is a great leader with two strong daughters. If each one will teach one, we will eventually create a tidal wave of women in strong, loving leadership.
I am married to a man who supports my efforts; sadly the father of my children is not one of these supportive men in my efforts. He does, however, provide support to other women in my life.
Love,
