Women’s leadership is vital in humanitarian action: Tonga

In  the past week women leaders in Tonga like Vanessa Heleta the Executive Director of the Talitha Project a partner of the Shifting the Power Coalition
has been making sure her family, neighbours, staff and volunteers are safe and secure.

She is also building on her organisation's partnership with #TongaNEMO to ensure inclusive assessments are undertaken.

With resources via the Coalition she has purchased water and organised the distribution of dignity packs and food items to young women and girls and their families in affected communities on the main island of Tongatapu.

*** The Shifting the Power Coalition will continue to monitor official updates and support Talitha Project Tonga, in their locally driven efforts to respond to the current crisis and ensure that women, including young women, women with disabilities as well as the LGBTQ community have a voice in the immediate and longer-term recovery effort***
