COMMUNITY RESPONSE TEAM IN A MARKET
Together we can educate, empower and employ girls living with extreme poverty thereby create a safer and better world!
Women Inspiration Development Center (WIDC) as known by our supporters is committed to advancing women’s right and creating a safe place for survivors of gender-based violence and disenfranchised women and girls in Nigeria. In January and February, 2022, we continue to expand the network of Confident girls in Nigeria. We started the year by visiting high schools to inaugurate Confident Girls Clubs in the schools to amplify girls’ voices against violence against women and girls.
In March Women Inspiration Development Center in collaboration with World Pulse trained 40 girls in Online Storytelling to celebrate 2022 International Women Day (IWD). “Balance for Better”
In April, Women Inspiration Development Center joined the Good Deed International to celebrate the year 2022 Good Deed Day. We sensitized 345 university students on doing good. Also that day, 213 girls who joined our Confident Girls network. It was a wonderful day of doing good.
In April also, we started a collaboration with Women Advocate and Research Documentation Center (WARDC) to introduce a new face to our efforts in eradicating Violence against Women and Girls in our communities. This new face was building community solidarity and accountability in ending gender-based violence. This is involving the Traditional rulers and community heads in the crusade of eradicating violence against women and girls in our society.
As a result of this, 5 traditional rulers and 19 Community Women leaders signed pact with WARDC and WIDC to end Violence against Women and Girls in their domain.
In May through June and July, the Community Response Team (CRT) against Gender based violence were moving round the communities, marketplaces, churches, mosque and city slums to curb Violence Against Women and girls.
In September through October, WIDC embarked on skill acquisition training for 17 girls living in extreme poverty – setting them off to become economically empowered and thereby become leaders in their communities. The machine for the training was sponsored by our partner LILUYE founded by my World Pulse Sister Jill.
In October, International Day of Girl Child was celebrated in a grand style by WIDC as 103 female students from 25 secondary schools, 25 teachers from 25 schools and 28 Confident girls from universities came together to celebrate ourselves as digital generation.
During the program, there was sensitization about human trafficking using the material of our partner, LILUYE founded by my World Pulse sister, Jill.
There was also sensitization of the new Violence Against persons Prohibition Acts (VAPP) which was just domesticated in Osun state and each school went back with 4 copies of VAPP law for their school library. The girls also went home with personal gifts of toiletries sent to us by our partners in the UK.
In November, Women inspiration Development Center (WIDC) sent relief to victims of flood in five states of Nigeria that their cases of flood were so critical. We sent reliefs to Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Bauchi and Benue. The reliefs range from material to cash gift supported by our partner Global Giving.
In December, the Shelter for the Abused of Women Inspiration Development Center was officially opened with six survivors of abuse. It was a dream that came true by the help of our partner Global Giving as a result of the Girl Fund award.
Also in December, Women Inspiration Development Center fed 262 vulnerable families through our end of the year feeding program (giving to the women living in extreme poverty). The program was funded by Julie Adejumo and her friends in UK. The food was distributed in four locations so that it can reach many communities.
