Women Empowerment Project
Oct 28, 2019
story
I run two women organizations in my Country Cameroon. Priceless Women is focused on women empowerment and Rahel Randy Foundation which is focused on promoting female literacy in Cameroon.
It's been an amazing journey for the past three years. I have been carrying out my projects and activities single handedly until recently alot of people kept encouraging me to approach the ministry of women's affairs and let them know what am up too so they can support me. However, I was reluctant but then I summed up courage and decided to give it a try and I was disappointed.
I will be hosting a women's empowerment conference from the 1st to the 2nd of November 2019 in Cameroon. One of my goal for this conference is to empower atleast 10 to 20 internally displaced women with atleast a 50dollars cash envelope to enable them start small businesses to sustain their families as a result of the ongoing crisis in Cameroon and equally run a free breast cancer screening for all participants. After I submitted my letter and the upcoming conference project to the ministry of women's affairs the Delegate was impressed and assigned someone to represent her at the conference. I was happy to hear such feedback. I danced to the news only to be told I will have to pay transport for the Delegate's representatives and equally give them an envelope. This got me like " how does this demand support the work or empower the women? What happens to the annual budget this people vote for the said ministry to empower women?. I couldn't get answers so I left their office disappointed.
It's a hard to swallow such feedback. But then I won't let it discourage me. The conference will still push through and I will bring all the updates.
