Woman Submit thou now!!!

I have had a very interesting week. Monday was nice and quiet and then on Tuesday... kaboom, whack, bang, the noises started and it was deafening.
My colleague had gone to a programme (Women in the GAP) and the topic was spousal submission as taught in the New testament of the bible by Apostle Paul. She said the lead woman had made a presentation on submitting to husbands and the group had had to share experiences. One woman had stayed with an emotionally and physically abusive husband for 32 years and just endured until he had died and now she is \"living la vida loca\". Another said, if her husband ever cheated and had an illegitimate baby that would be...game over for the marriage.
I asked my colleague how she herself felt about the issue of submission and she said \" well, wives must submit\". I said \"granted, and so out of curiosity what is submission?\". She said \"wives must be resigned and must surrender at all times!!!\" I couldn't believe my ears!
I said \"submission is about yielding and accepting [out of love and respect to a partner] rather than resigning to your fate\". Iwas so worked up that in 2010 anyone could talk about the marriage relationship as they would have in the 16th Century, I even whipped out my bible and compared texts in the old testament to the new testament version of marriage laws (Exodus vrs 2nd Corithians). I espoused the Christ principle of headship... as Christ is over the Church ....and husbands over wives. None of that text says husband lordship....and then we were on the subject of divorce...and on and on.
Suffice it to say that by the end of the evening I had made my stance clear, abuse can't be allowe or tolerated. Women and men's roles are different (I certainly don't want to have to lift heavy stuff and face attacking dogs when I take a walk with my partner) but they are certainly mutually beneficial and that should be clear at all times...but enough of Religious anitquities and the cultural contexts and connotations of bible verses...
My Thursday was even noisier...what with the whodunnit hulabaloo in the political circles. The chairman of a political party had run off his mouth about how \"his government\" was going to clean out/up the judiciary. Everyone had a go at the poor man and for 1000's of radio minutes, the party had its spin doctors working at it from all angles.. oh he's a party leader and not the government and we respect the rule of law and the seperation of duties etc....it didn't do much help . And I couldn't help thinking ... a woman wouldn't have made this mess...call it practice or whatever you will...but we know exactly how much it takes to clean dirty linen so we try to keep it clean!!
