Where I’m From - A personal story

I am from a calabash,
from marbles and cotton wrappers.
I am from the rainy plains.
I am from the guava tree,
the palm oil plantation.
I am from the tales by moonlight and singing choruses,
from Theresa and Mark.
From “clumsy” and “don’t go out”.
I am from Lagos with Delta origins,
Gari and fish pepper soup.
From Faith and generosity.
From poverty and gender equality.
I am from the waterside,
from never giving up,
from laughter and good humour.
