Web 2.0 raising awareness, creating connections and building movements

Web 2.0 allows me to participate in the creation and consumption of content and interact with people online. It also allows me to meet new people and connect with my friends and family. It benefits me in the social networking in that I can quickly get feedback, share ideas, keep people up-to-date on projects, and organize gatherings or actions in the community.

Web 2.0 provides women with historical opportunity to promote their voices, strengthen collaboration, and accelerate the exchange of working models for women’s empowerment and solutions to global challenges. A new generation of grassroots women leaders is emerging online. Women can connect with each other and their allies to share their experiences and bring their stories, needs and solutions to the forefront of global awareness. Women are able to report and write news; more likely talking about women’s political participation and gender-based violence. Women are also featured as the news subjects and challenge to gender stereotypes far more often than men. In other words, women stories do make a difference.
It is to be noted that growth of women's education and their entries into employment have contributed to the growth of Web 2.0 which has played an important role to create awakening in women to achieve their potential as the prime movers of change in society.

New media and Web 2.0 can allow me to connect, express and transform myself as I collaborate across oceans, continents and cultural barriers. I can also speak out with women across the globe to challenge existing ideas or expose under-reported issues in their community. In other words these tools can be empowering to me in raising awareness, creating connections and building movements.
