Ever since the use of social media have been introduced, it has paved so much way for me in a way that it has become very hard for someone to overlook my voice or speak for me, more so as a woman. For centuries a woman’s voice has been ignored, a woman was, and still is in some parts of the world, only to be seen and not to be heard: The male dominated society has for centuries decided the destiny of a woman, the one that fits their needs and pleases their desires, with no consideration whatsoever if the same destiny will make or break this woman. Gratefully however the society is not immune to change, hence the revolution of global communication and media and the introduction of Web 2.0 has given an opportunity for women to promote our voices and uphold our union.
What I find so exciting about Web 2.0 is the way it is so friendly designed and user centered. I can easily interact and share ideas and information. It allows me to collaborate with others in various social media dialogues as my own content creator in a virtual community. In Web.2.0 my information flows freely and I can express my ideas without fear of repression, it has made internet usage a true democratic system, my own digital democracy.
Web 2.0 have given birth to a new generation of grassroots women leaders. We are beginning to use this technology to speak our minds and share our visions to make a difference for social change and for the better future. With this technology I see the world of women coming together as one village. For this short time that I have used World Pulse for instance, it has allowed me to learn new ideas and be well informed about what is happening globally.
See! I thought I knew how powerful a woman’s voice could be, but i thought wrong, World Pulse has exceeded my imagination! Now I can keep my own online library in my journal, publish my articles, introduce and my ideas and get so much suggestions from others, I also share my experience with other women globally.
I see Web 2.0 bringing many solutions to the global women's empowerment movement; we can now access resources that, if well used can allow us to participate in our countries’ political and economic decision-making. As a woman I feel empowered to advocate for the rights of girls and what they believe, I see opportunities to connect with grassroots women leaders from around the globe and I can now be a part of a movement that aims at increasing awareness of women needs, improve women’s quality of life in both developing and developed countries, educate women to know and understand their rights, also enable women to participate more fully in issues that affect them.
Web 2.0 offers us a networking and mentoring necessary to expand and amplify our voices and collaborate with other change-makers around the world. Web 2.0 literary puts power of information in the hands of a woman and give room for the realization and growth of a strong and empowered woman.
