Web 2.0: A Social Justice Empowerment Tool

As one new to the term Web 2.0 I started this process with trepidation. I revisited the definition provided and discovered that I use Web 2.0 and didn’t know it by name. I am not efficient in my use of the tools and technology. I classify myself as a recreational user with a tremendous amount to learn and a deep desire to do so.

What excites me most about Web 2.0 is the endless possibility it holds as a communication strategy. To consider the global ability for women to connect in some cases instantaneously to millions of others around a single issue is tremendous. The application of the tools provides women who would otherwise have no way to communicate to a vast audience power. I am thrilled to be considered to advance my skills with Web 2.0 and to access and share information on a grander scale. Even more exciting is the opportunity to then be able to teach and empower other women to do the same.

As I find myself familiar with some of these tools I am pleased to be starting with a bit of familiarity. Hopefully that means that my learning curve on those tools I do not have will be shortened. Being able to utilize them to their greatest potential with me having greater skills will be revolutionary. For me to “have the world at my fingertips” is an awesome notion. Not only will I give expansive voice to items that are important to me, I will give audience to things that are important to women all around the world. To have that kind of communicative power for good at my fingertips is almost too hard to believe. I see the powerful difference these tools will make in the lives of women and children whose lives are affected by drug use disorders. For them to be instantly connected and to know and experience that they are not alone is one of the greatest feelings in the world. It may be the one strategy that empowers a woman in a destructive household to take that next step towards healing and wholeness.

Addiction is an economically and socially global health crisis. The support of Web 2.0 fosters sharing between myself and others called to make a difference. With it, we will bring about social justice, healing and reconciliation for the world. As a tool for empowerment Web 2.0 provides a social justice platform that gives voice to millions of women who have something to say and no way to do so. It connects us as a global family and unifies us to no longer allow sickness in mind body and spirit to isolate us. As Web 2.0 grows exponentially, it grants greater power to millions of women whose desire to communicate globally expands our ability to affect global change. And because I am on the forefront, I feel confident that it will happen.
