The Warrior Empowerment Program (WEP) is an empowerment program for persons living with sickle cell also called Warriors, with the aim of providing them with valuable life sustaining skills that would help them to be self sufficient and independent.
This project idea was borne out of the need to raise more independent persons living with sickle cell. It came about as a desire to curb the growing rate of unemployment, dependability life style which is a leading cause to depression for persons with sickle cell. Often times, getting gainful employment is extremely difficult, not because of the lack of qualifications and skills but because of the stigma and discrimination towards people with sickle cell. Many are forced to hide their status while many are often at the receiving end of sack letters because of frequent absences from work due to hospitalizations.
Our organisation, Joy2Endure Foundation seeks to support and empower people with sickle cell amongst others. In addition to helping them get routine essential daily medications, a most better and lasting way to support them is to help them gain lasting skills that would empower them economically and here is where the Warrior Empowerment Program (WEP) concept came about.
The goal is to empower 100+( with a possibility of going above target) people with sickle cell across Cameroon through 1, 2, 3 days workshops depending on the availability of resources. One way to achieve this is to fund raise/ seek for funding and grant opportunities/ partnerships with other organisations interested in empowering vulnerable individuals, persons with visible and invisible disabilities through sustainable life skills programs.
