there aren't enough progressive, conscious voices (of people) of color in the U.S. covering local and global issues in a way that \"connects the dots\", or links (local) social justice issues and injustices to the global struggle for human rights.

1. Honest, strong, solutions-based journalism will help my community to better informed and be more accurately represented across a spectrum of media platforms. Contributing to shifting the paradigm for how communities of color and low income/working communities in the United States are represented in the media, is part of a broader shift to fundamentally transform how our images are created, projected, interpreted, and reproduced for local and global consumption. Media impacts self-perception and collective identity. I want to use journalism as a tool to help create media that positively impacts how we see ourselves, so that we can better leverage our collective power.
