Update on my change maker module 1 journey. I have learned a lot on how to better shape my problem statement which is to prevent skin cancer amongst persons living with albinism in the Northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon in particular. It thought me that many solutions can be pay to a problem and I learned that since my initiative will be reoccurring it will fall under a program not a project.
I will do campaigns atleast 2 to 3 times every year Sensitizing the community and persons with albinism on Albinism and Skin because most of them are so ignorant of who really they are. So lesson 1 gave me 7 tools in defining campaign's problem.
Lesson 3 of module 1 thought me on how to reach my SMART goals.
SPECIFIC
WHO: Persons with albinism. WHAT: to empower and sensitize them on the prevention of skin cancer. WHEN: From August 2022 to September 2023. Where: in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon .
It should bemeasurable ie tracking the progress of my initiative in a quantitative way. And I should also make sure that, my initiative is achievable making sure that the skills are available such as I am a nurse and have been testing my initiative for the past years and the main ingredient for the initiative is Aleovera which is available and less expensive.
The initiative is very RELEVANT since skin cancer is the number killer disease on persons with albinism and prevention is better than cure or death.
It is time bound as stated above, all these has really shape my SMART goals.
Many points were thought on which I had worries especially on fund raising, visibility, how to recruit volunteers and donors etc.
Am so happy to be a dashboard which is a tool used to measure the impact of my initiative.
I learned of SWOT which is a strategic planning method that I will use to evaluate the Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and threats involved in my initiative. This was studied in lesson 5 module 1. Even when applying my initiative I will deeply consider at work analysis in order to bring a balance especially in my sensitization campaigns.
Lesson 7 thought me by using logic models for program, implementation and evaluation of my initiative. The module has really changed me and my community will be charged as well.
