UPDATE: 144 SUPPORTES - PLEASE CONTINUE SIGNING MY PETITON

Update: As of March 27, 2023, our petition to increase the minimum age of consent in the European Union from 14 to 16 years old has gained 144 supporters. This is a significant increase from when we first started the petition and shows that there is growing awareness and support for this important issue.

The current minimum age of consent in the European Union varies from country to country, with some countries setting it as low as 14 years old. However, many organizations, including the World Health Organization and the Council of Europe, recommend setting the minimum age of consent at 16 years old. By doing so, we can help to protect young people from exploitation and abuse, promote healthy and respectful relationships, and improve public health outcomes.

One of the main benefits of increasing the minimum age of consent to 16 years old is that it helps to protect young people from exploitation and abuse. At the age of 14, many young people may not have the emotional maturity or understanding necessary to fully comprehend the consequences of their actions. This can make them vulnerable to coercion or manipulation by older individuals, leading to potential harm and trauma.

In addition to protecting young people, increasing the minimum age of consent can also help to promote healthy and respectful relationships. At the age of 16, young people are more likely to have the emotional maturity and understanding necessary to enter into consensual relationships with others. This can help to create a culture of respect and understanding, rather than one that encourages exploitation and disrespect.

Finally, increasing the minimum age of consent can also have public health benefits. Research has shown that young people who have sex at an early age are more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors, leading to unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. By setting the minimum age of consent at 16, we can help to encourage young people to wait until they are more mature and better able to make informed decisions about their sexual health.

We thank all of our supporters for their continued advocacy and commitment to this important issue. We will continue to raise awareness and call on policymakers to take action in support of increasing the minimum age of consent in the European Union.

If you have not yet signed our petition, we invite you to join us in supporting this important cause. Together, we can help to create a safer and healthier world for all young people.

Sincerely,

Teo Akinola
