UNDER THE KNIFE

She had to face the knife, Tradition had it in order for it to strive.
A striving tradition governed by the face of the knife
The young girls gathered at the same place
Placing the age groups together ready to strike
They had to face the same rage. It was time for tradition to take place
.
A ruthless tradition with no remorseness of humanity.
Placing the blade on her. Cutting her slowly with no haste.
The same blade used in other places full of stains
She screamed as her heart raced. All they could do is cover her face.
Tradition said its for a man’s pleasure these keeps religion under pressure.

Her screams cover the village, as the drums beat to the rhythm
Blood dripping through her thighs as tears dripped through her face
The bloods stained the floor as the initiator missed the point
Society has lost another woman to a cause that favors men
Celebrations turns into grievances as death circulates the air

Female circumcision has claimed a leader of tomorrow
While Society has been silenced and the practice had been hidden
The leaders of today victims of the knife afraid to condemn it
The African tradition a killer practice that target the youth
