Typhoon Sendong

I am saddened with the misery left behind by the recent typhoon that visited the Philippines. Close to a thousand people have been reported dead and several hundreds are missing. It has been said that climate change is one of the causes of the flash floods that created havoc into the lives of my countrymen down south. But then I recall how the indiscriminate logging and denuding of Mindanao's forest cover have been going on for the past two decades. Mother nature now lashes back at undisciplined people like us.

I hope that determined efforts to reforest our mountains not only in Mindanao but also in all provinces where the mountains cry to be replanted and rehabilitated. Maybe, just maybe, when we are able to respect our environment will we be spared from these natural calamities that beset the country today.
