first-story
The article about the root tuber in the print media showed a link between culture and perception of women in that particular society. I think that the shape of the tuber being man-like and its linkage to bad omens shows the gravity of societal world views in reference to cultures, traditions and beliefs. This however, should not necessitate indulging in harmful cultural practices which most times targets women, as a way of cleansing the family and clan.
This also brings in the land question where the land in question may be claimed to be cursed or harboring wicked ancestral spirits and may perpetuate land conflicts. The final most affected person still being the woman. There fore, there is a need to ensure protection of women by safe guarding them against harmful cultural practices. the multiplier effect is much greater over lapping to the children, husband and eventually to the entire society.
