It was a great win as we organized town square advocacy in Moro and Akeredolu towns where we have about 420 men, women, boys and girls attended our advocacy to eradicate violence against women and girls. At the meeting, we were able to encourage the town people to work together to eradicate gender based violence in their midst.
The king and chiefs in both town were present to include their voices that they have sighed the pact to eradicate violence against women in their towns and therefore their subject must be living with their wives and husbands in peace.
Also at the meeting, there was sensitization about "Violence Against Person prohibition Acts" the new law and people were so grateful that they got to know about the law that will be protecting them. It was also a thing of joy for the town people that they got to be aware of the new law which will be helping them to always be careful in their dealings so as not to fall into errors that could make them face the wrath of the law.
It was discover at the meeting that only 8% of the participants at the meeting was aware that there is a law in Nigeria against violence and only 3% of the women present was aware that there is a law that can protect them.
At the end of the meeting, the town people pledged to join hand with us to put a stop to violence against women and girls in their communities.
