The World Pulse 50: What the Spirit Award means to me

I'm one of the World Pulse 50 — Spirit Award Grand Prize Recipient

It is with great honour and gratitude that I accept the World Pulse Spirit Award. I did not expect this recognition. Being around and learning from powerful sisters who are doing amazing work to uplift women in their respective communities is a reward in itself.

To be connected with women from all over using digital technology is a privilege denied to many. Where millions of women and girls have no access or barely any access to Internet. Despite the limitations we do not give up.

This is, I think, what the World Pulse spirit is. We do not allow the digital divide to prevent us from reaching out to each other.

The World Pulse Spirit is about creating spaces for women and girls that will allow them to confidently share their voice. Knowing that there is somebody in a different part of the globe, in a different time zone who listens and cares. The World Pulse Spirit is about having the empathy to listen. It is about bonding together to co-create a world free from conflict and violence.
