The World Pulse 50: What being a Changemaker means to me

I’m one of the World Pulse Top 50 – Changemaker

\"On behalf of Haki Nawiri Afrika, my country Kenya, my beloved continent Africa, I take this opportunity to say a big thank you to World Pulse for recognising the work I do. The magnitude of this recognition is a win not only for me , but also for the communities that I work with day by day in advancing social justice in Kenya and in Africa.

World Pulse has created a space for me to be visible. When I joined World Pulse, I never had the courage to write, to share my thoughts. With World Pulse, my writing skills improved and today there are sisters at World Pulse who are always looking forward to when my next article will land on the site and I have been recognised as a Vocal Contributor.

I do not take it for granted to be part of World Pulse, it is one of the most vibrant networks globally. World Pulse has enabled me travel the world virtually, through the stories of powerful women. World Pulse has given me space to amplify my work, it has enabled me make friends and given me the much needed support when things don’t seem to be working. From encouragement, to ideas, to experts in different fields, funds (through the resource page) and opportunities for capacity enhancement and personal development. , I’m Not the same, every day I get even better.

Change making to me means the urge to see transformation in communities, it is a shift from passive onlookers to people who actually engage, it is a shift from gender-based violence to reasoning, it is a shift from patriarchal mindset. It is light at the end of a tunnel.

Change making means a shift from people unaware of their rights to people championing for their own rights and those of others. Change making is when communities live in harmony with each other and with nature. It is the recognition that ecocide is a crime and that we have no planet B. It is listening to the muted voices, putting the last first and creating spaces at the table. It is refusing to be silenced when impunity thrives.

Long live World Pulse! Long Live Sisterhood Bado Mapambano! (The Struggle Continues)
