The World Pulse 50: What being a Changemaker means to me

I’m one of the World Pulse 50 – Changemaker

I am so honored to be selected with other phenomenal sisters, who together are only trying to make their little corners on the globe better. Although I am super proud of my African heritage, I must confess that being a woman here could be very challenging due to prevailing circumstances, mainly- cultural. Many women and girls did not choose the circumstance they have found themselves in today, so it is a situation where we either sail or sink.

Thankfully, most of us are resilient and choose to sail despite the odds. However, a good number lack direction due to the absence of Mentors. Hence, for me, change-making means enabling the environment I find myself to mentor and support women and girls in overcoming career-limiting constraints to take advantage of career development opportunities.

Enough of being relegated to the background because of our biological clocks. Enough of being hidden due to our religious choices. Why trample upon us because we are girls or women? I Choose to support my sisters to win. I choose to collaborate with those supporting other sisters to make a change.

I’m super glad I discovered World Pulse at the time I did. I was skeptical initially, but when I eventually found the courage to join, I realized it was the place to be. I am enjoying the best version of myself, and the ripple effect on others has been nothing but fantastic.

Thank you, Maama Tam, for my nomination for the Spirit Award, even when I was almost invisible on the platform. Thank you, Jill and my other World Pulse sisters. It feels great to be celebrated, especially when one thinks so much less of oneself.

Yes, our voices are rising; we’re being seen. Yes, we’re being heard.

Yes, we’re being felt, and there’s no stopping our amplified voices because together…we can only rise.

Together, we’ll win. YES, we can!
