The power of the mind

The power of mind

The mind is a powerful force, it can enslave or empower you. It can plunge you into the depths of misery or take you to the heights of ecstasy -David Cuschieri.

The mind is so powerful to the extent that it controls the whole system of the body. Especially, when one thought revolve around something of great interest.

It is one of the strongest and most useful power you possess. This power, together with your imagination, can create success or failure, happiness or unhappiness, opportunities or obstacles. It depends on your mindset. Your thoughts are the main ingredient of this power, and when you add to them focus and emotions, thoughts become powerful and can affect your reality.

Not all thoughts are equal. There are some situations where you think just once or twice and then let it go which doesn't really matter much, but once a situation or incident becomes predominant in the mind, as it repeated often, can influence your behavior and attitude, affect your actions and reactions, and shape your reality.

The mind is the set of faculties responsible for mental phenomena. The term is also identified with the phenomena themselves. These faculties include thought , imagination, memory, and sensation. They are responsible for various mental phenomena, like perception, pain experience, belief , desire , intention and emotion .

The mind is composed of one's attention, the mental images and thoughts. Thoughts are energy. Though subtle and invisible, which can affect reality just like the wind which is invisible, but can be powerful and you can feel it, so are your mind and thoughts.

Thoughts are like seed that use the mind as its abode. They have a natural tendency to grow, get powerful, run wild and manifest in one's life, that is if they are fed with attention and are allowed to grow.

These thoughts, which actually determine your feelings and shape your behaviours are rooted in the brain, where a complex network of cells receives information from the internal and external environment, transforming the information into what we  experience ourselves, or the world around us, and also feel in our relationships with it.

There is always a need to train the mind to accommodate positive thought as you can't become in love what you haven't become in your mind. I would like to relay a beautiful piece of mind story. A scenario where a man was taken to the hospital because he was unwell. The man was admitted to the hospital and series of tests was carried out on him including HIV test.

The first test results came out and he had malaria and typhoid. While treating malaria and typhoid, the HIV test results came out and it was also discovered that the man is HIV positive. Immediately, he becomes so depressed and deleted, also  lacks energy and feel tired psychology and cognitively. He could neither eat nor drink through out his days.

Some weeks later, the lab technician discovered there has been a mistake in the test as the man's blood samples had been swapped with another person at the lab, which means he is HIV negative. Upon hearing the news, he was overwhelmed with joy and didn't know when he stood up and started running in excitement.

The act got everyone wondering how someone that couldn't move for weeks suddenly got up and started running and jumping in jubilation, they kept wondering where the energy comes from and am sure you possibly might also be wondering too!

That is the power of the mind. Having heard the sad news from the doctor, he had thought that death is the only option for him. He had been constantly thinking about the deadly disease which might take years before it can be cured.   Whatever the consequences one is facing in life, it has already been projected by the mind. We live and die first in our minds, the first poverty and riches start from the mind so as success and failure. Its all begin in the mind, you start thinking and as this thought  is concentrated on, the mind keeps suffering. The mind has a powerful way of attracting things that are in harmony with it; either good or bad. We need to be conscious of what we digest to the mind!
