THE NURSE WHO GAVE BIRTH AND DELIVERED OTHER THREE WOMEN: THE POWER OF WEB 2.0

Tonight as the world goes into a deep slumber, with tired souls, a broken heart, rejected partner or spouse .There is one woman( the midwife) today who will make a difference in the lives of her citizens starting from her home, village, state, country or continent. This woman will be far much awake before dawn as men and children fall into dreams of bliss. This woman will bring life to the world. The story of this woman will be made possible by the Web 2.0, by the strength of a fellow woman who will go out of the way to tell the story of a heroin as it is.
I am compelled to write this story because of finding Pulse Wire two months ago, and with the help of Web 2.0, it will touch and highlight the most captivating experiences nurses and midwives in Kenya undergo to save women lives during labor.
“One young midwife went into labor three weeks ago ,and decided to deliver in the same hospital she works in, however a misfortune happened after about two hours post delivery ,thugs broke into the hospital ,found three nurses in labor ward, beat and tied them with ropes and raped one nurse. These was unknown to her until when she found it disturbing that women were screaming in labor ward and no midwife was attending to them. With the pain of the delivery and bleeding, she wrapped her baby well in a shawl and put her on the bed, then walked slowly to find out why. As a professional she knew too well that any voice in distress should be attended to. Alas! There was no midwife around. At that moment, a mother was almost pushing out the baby on her own, so the delivered midwife went to rescue the other woman and delivered her safely ,soon after another one came from home straight into labor ward and the baby was almost out, she delivered the second one, and a third one. She knew there was something very strange, she tried to look around for the nurses and found them tied. She untied them and looked for help to search for the third nurse who had been defiled by the thugs”.
This story was captured on only one out of five print media with casual approach. Meanwhile because I work in The National Nurses Association my next step is to open email accounts to 1000 midwives majority who are women, in the rural areas to connect them with the world so that they too can share their stories and innovation while trying to reduce the maternal mortality. This will happen in October 2011 at the Annual Nurses Scientific Conference. Also The Ministry of Health has been giving out computers to midlevel hospitals and hope in future the Association can plan for basic computer knowledge for her members.
