The NLK Girls _ use of information and communication technology (ICT)
Sep 3, 2021
story
We provide electronic information sources through access to information technology and skills. Traditionally, a community library might meet user’s information needs by acquiring, organizing and making available relevant information resources through manual or hard copies. For any community library to perform well and meet the needs of the users in modern times, it is necessary for the community library to embrace the use of information and communication technology (ICT).
In addition to commitment to the prevention of COVID-19 at target grassroots communities, currently our NLK/ Blue Lupin Libraries library is serving users particularly women, children, girls, youths and other vulnerable groups with free computers and Wi-Fi access with the help of technology skills development. The lack of enough computers and IT skills have caused challenges for the project in providing users of both genders with access to library services. Information Technology creates new opportunities for these productive groups to advance their social, economic, health and political rights, attend school remotely, increase enrollment, and decrease rates of dropouts. It will enable all to involve in their local and national development processes actively and productively particularly during this time of isolation and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We deeply appreciate our long-term compassionate Donor- the Stephen Lewis Foundation (the SLF) based in Toronto, Canada. our important work for grassroots communities to empower the target HIV/AIDS affected Grandmothers and their families, women, Girls’ children and other vulnerable groups has been possible by the SLF. No words can express enough the SLF’s commitment to change the tide of AIDS in grassroots communities of the Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia. The SLF has unique wisdom of understanding grassroots communities to change the tide of HIV/AIDS , bring the progress in other socio-economic, health and human Rights among others. The SLF invest into women empowerment program at grassroots and regards the grassroots communities as a “Center” for realizing the overall desired social change, development and progress in terms of socio- economic, health and women’s human Rights is commendable and appreciated because it is a “prefect” approach as expertise working with women and their organizations at grassroots communities, particularly with those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Having said, NLK women would like to use this opportunity for any possible support and solidarity from our Global sisters on world pulse/across the world for support of more technologies, computers, Books, any relevant equipment/accessories might be put to use to our ongoing IT skill improvement / building effort for our target women, girls, youths and other vulnerable groups in our target in our NLK’s target grassroots programme communities in Ethiopia.
