The long-awaited process of justice has begun...

February 17th, 2009 --

The sky is pearl white and a spray of light rain rests on the chairs and table tops... Today is the first day of the long-awaited Cambodian tribunal to begin the process of bringing to justice the now old and dying and cataract-eyed leaders of the Khmer Rouge... it seems the air is perspiring with some cool but anxious dread. My friends are there now, seeking some information thick enough to bite into, real enough to feed the hunger for justice, large enough to fill the gap left behind by two million lost girls, boys, men, women, mothers, fathers, teachers, lovers.... Today the cool morning will only make the afternoon swelter, generating a heat that doesn't beam down from a bright sun but rather emanates from within the body, like a cool glass of water dripping condensation...

The first step has happened.
