The Female Face of Farming - Exploring the Gender Gap in Agriculture (Infographic Resources)

Women wear a variety of hats in all countries. Women are Workers, women are Entrepreneurs, women are Care-Givers, Bread-winners and Bread-Makers. Women are Mothers, Wives, Daughters, and Sister. Women are very versatile but even though women have multi-faceted roles with their communities, gender gaps still remain in many different areas.

Here is a great info graphic that was produced by the United Nations: Food and Agriculture Organization that highlight the gender gap in agriculture around the world.

“Women, on average, comprise 43% of the agricultural labor force in developing countries and account for an estimated two-thirds of the world's 600 million poor livestock keepers.”

“The vast majority of studies have found that differences in yields between men and women exist not because women are less skilled but because they have less access to inputs such as improved seeds, fertilizers and equipment.”

Do you see any of these trends that are highlighted in this graphic occur in your society? Are women able to over come some of these gaps? How can we use our voice and work together and overcome this gap in agriculture? Can women gain economic empowerment through their roles in agriculture?

I would love to hear your thougthts on this topic and any other thoughts that come to mind when explore the info graphic. I hope everyone enjoys!
