The commemoration of the the IAAD 2022.

The international albinism awareness day is commemorated every year on the 13th of June 2022.

The theme of this year is " UNITED IN MAKING OUR VOICE HEARD" this theme was chosen to unite persons with albinism all over the world and with one voice their worries will be heard, to fight for their rights and to share their achievements. The Association for the welfare of albinos(AWA), founded by Ngom Maceline Anwi decided to commemorate this day in collaboration with all her partners and well wishers.

In my community persons with albinism especially the girls are women hardly take part in social activities. So AWA train these group of persons on several activities such as dancing act and craft work, singing, film acting, fashion parades and more. These activities will help them build a very high healthy self-esteem and will empower each and everyone of them on their various skills they are best at and to improve their livelihood.

This day was commemorated on the 12 of June instead of the 13 due to the ongoing socio-political crisis.

Most of them were very happy to see the presence of some key officials such as the Divisional deligate for social affaires, women empowerment, the representative of the Lord mayor of our municipality etc this makes them feel important knowing that the state knows they exist, most persons with albinism on this day said, " we want actions not words" this is because most persons with albinism in our community are not educated, not intergrated, not included in decision making and in social or cultural activities.

The day ended so well with 65 participants of total and it was a great event which ended with each person living albinism going home a gift given by the UNFPA through the delegation of social affaires and another from UNICEF through the delegation of social affaires.

AWA further schedule a 2 days workshops after the commemoration of the international albinism awareness day June 13 2022, on Vaseline production and Menthol which will further increase their standard of living and keeping them busy. These workshops will include vulnerable persons, physically challenge and persons living with albinism. No on
