Skilling Girls Through Apprenticeship for social and economic empowerment

initiative

The two lock downs due to COVID 19 in 2020 and 2021 greatly disrupted education of girls and boys in Uganda. This has had a huge negative impact to the youths. Girls got pregnant, married, lost focus , families lost income sources. Schools have just been opened and its so disheartening that over half of these youth cannot return to school. I believe that we have responsibility of handing a future to these youth. It is for that reason I feel obliged to do something to help these girls shape their future.
Girls will be placed in an apprenticeship where she will be given hands on business skills in a certified business place (hair dressing, agribusiness, Phone repair, Catering and hotel management, Carpentry and joinery, Juice making .....) . this is a 3-6 months placement depending on the trade. Upon successful completion of the placement, she will be helped with a start up kit to begin her own business.
Youth unemployment issues are a major concern today in Uganda because it has negative effects on the welfare of young people and may also adversely affect economic performance and social stability. The initiative will create a positive ripple effect on the communities where the youths live.
We shall closely track these girls to ensure that they get the best out of this initiative skilling programme. We want to use tis as a model and eventually scale it up. Your support is highly appreciated.
