According to online sources, the challenges of sustainability and the issue of plastics in Africa’s rivers and oceans look quite drastic and bleak. The studies report that approximately 500 shipping containers of waste are dumped in Africa every month.

A recent study found that only 10% of all trash produced in Africa was recycled. Also, an immeasurable number of towns across the continent have no official waste collection service, meaning there is nowhere for litter to go.

Other recent studies have found out that Africa is the second most polluted continent on the planet but she is working to reduce the impact of plastic pollution and litter within communities

These numbers look extreme and are hard to believe. But despite these shocking statistics, the surprising fact is that many Africans are at the forefront of the fight against plastic. Today I present to you Violet Ochieng.

Violet runs Veeklture, a social enterprise working with teen mothers to produce quality, authentic and durable affordable reusable pads. Teen mothers in Kibera slum, the largest urban slum in Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya now have a reason to smile, because they can now purchase the best reusable diapers and enjoy stress-free lives.

Reusable diapers are a great option for teen mothers. They are an economical and eco-friendly choice that can save money in the long run. Reusable diapers are made from cloth and can be washed and reused multiple times. They come in a variety of designs and sizes, so teen mothers can find the perfect fit for their baby.

Reusable diapers are also free of harsh chemicals and irritants, making them a safe choice for babies and the environment. They are also more comfortable and breathable than disposable diapers, which can help reduce diaper rash and other skin problems. Teen mothers can feel confident that reusable diapers are a great choice for their baby and the environment.
