Single Moms at a threat of stopping education for their kids! Call for help.

Paavanar Tamil school was founded in 1999 for the socioeconomically downtrodden children in and around Pallikaranai area, Chennai, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, India. This is a Not-for-Profit school founded & run by Manidha neyan. This school is run on charity, from the funds it receives from the supporters.

The parents of the students who go to this school are daily wagers and most of them are single moms trying to give education to their kids.  The mothers are illiterate, lower class women with spouses that abandoned them and living on daily incomes. The school currently enrolls such students up to class 5. Once they graduate from class 5, the management makes sure that they get admission in Government schools in the nearby areas so that the children do not have to discontinue.

However, due to dwindling funds and lack of visibility for the cause, the school has not been able to make much progress. The building is in a bad shape now and because of the lack of facilities and the condition of the school, the number of students currently enrolled and attending has come down to 30.  The  school is also in a very low lying area and hence they need to raise the level of the school, build toilets and renovate the classrooms.  They are in need of funds to also run the school on an ongoing basis. This includes all expenses including staff, books, supplies and food for the kids.

By helping to renovate this school and touching the lives of the single moms and their kids, we will be giving education and hope to the next generation of poor kids to live on their own. A thriving school such as this will also entice other children that cannot afford an education to get into a school and get basic education right. Anyone interested can please contact Dheepa Ramanujam who is the Bay area of point of contact for this initiative +15109364406/dramanujam@gmail.com
