While Speaking on International Women's Day
This piece was written for my World Pulse young women and girls and is really personal to me. I've summed it up over the course of my ten-year professional career. Hope it's useful!
Here are my 7 pieces of advice for women to lead in the corporate sector:
1. Develop leadership skills: Women who aspire to leadership positions should focus on developing their leadership skills. This can be done by seeking out opportunities for training and development, such as attending leadership programs or taking on leadership roles in community organizations.
2. Build a strong network: Building a strong network of contacts and mentors is essential for career advancement. Women should seek out mentors who can provide guidance and support as they navigate the corporate world.
3. Speak up: Women should be willing to speak up and share their ideas and opinions. By being vocal and confident in their ideas, women can demonstrate their value as leaders and gain the respect of their colleagues.
4. Take on challenging assignments: Women who want to advance in their careers should seek out challenging assignments and take on new responsibilities. This can help demonstrate their leadership abilities and showcase their potential for higher-level positions.
5. Focus on results: Women should focus on delivering results and achieving measurable outcomes. This can help demonstrate their value to the organization and show that they are capable of handling senior-level responsibilities.
6. Build a personal brand: Women should focus on building a strong personal brand that highlights their strengths and expertise. This can be done by creating a professional website, publishing articles and thought leadership pieces, and engaging on social media.
7. Advocate for themselves: Women should be their own advocates and take responsibility for their own career advancement. This can be done by seeking out feedback and guidance, negotiating for better compensation and benefits, and actively pursuing opportunities for promotion and advancement.
