The year was 2019 and there i was sitting at the edge of my bed , my hand in a sling ,broken at the wrist , my face black and blue ,those were my pyhsical wounds , but mentally and emotionally I was tired ,exhausted , drained and a part of me was glad for the rest
I had suffered burn out , my busy ,hectic life had taken a toll on me , life had literally forced me to stop .
You would think this would cause me to rest , on the contrary it didnt , after 2 weeks ,I still went back to work with my broken hand , and still in pain as others saw their need for my services above my own . And my own concerns circled my mind making me uneasy and fearful , I had a new mortgage ,there were monthly bills to be paid , I am an entrepenur .
And as I kept pushing beyound my limits my body rebelled , it happened a second time , a severe bout of Cluster headaches associated with major stress I was experiencing at the time ,the loss of my home , business , the bout was so bad I taught I would die , it was unheard of in my country so diagnosis took a painful while and many drugs later , I got the shot of morphine and I rested for a couple days ,felt better and was back to pursuing life .
Until 2017 I began to really pay attention , I was on the Island of Dominica , hurricane Maria had swept pass and all these people had worked to acquire was taken away in a couple seconds and all that mattered was their breath , they were alive .
I truly began to appreciate what was most important ,my breath, and to preserve that I have to detach my self from stress and anything that steals my peace , self care became most important to me
As kirthi went through the symptoms of Burn Out , I could identify everyone of them n my experience , Burn Out is real and we are our own prevention
Loving ourselves , Knowing what is important , appreciating the beauty of a simple life , a liesurely stroll , a day at the beach , birdwatching , lying doing nothing , listening to some soulful music ,allowing your mind to just be free ,absorbing peace are all simple ways to embrace self care .
I recently sat in a zoom meeting with over 60 women and health care professionals , speaking on womens health and I realized how important it is to make physical exercise , healthy eating habits and regular check ups a priority as you mature .
Thank you World Pulse and kirthi for igniting and reminding us to prioritize SELF CARE
