Change is made, not only by talking but by doing. The power of our collective voices cannot be overestimated.

But what is even more powerful is our collective action.

Aside from gender advocacy, documenting women and honouring them in order to inspire women and Girls, and Sheroes.ng is also dedicated to influencing social action and policy change.

The rate of rape, domestic and sexual violence has escalated since the covid19 lockdown to such an alarming rate the world over. And Northern Nigeria has been badly hit by the pandemic, but by the rapedemic. Sadly, the wheel of justice for victims of rape, and rapists is close to non-existent in our society.

In order to contribute towards the fight against rape and sexual violence, we hosted a petition calling for policy review and action towards stiff penalties for rapists and support for rape victims.

We launched the petition on 10th June 2020, and it is now 8,734 signatures strong.

We are aiming for 20,000 signatures to enable us to make a compelling case to the United Nations, UN Women and the Global Fund for women.

We have reached and impacted 8,737 people so far, and we shall keep going.
