REQUEST FOR SUPPORT: Birth Justice in the Bronx

I am reaching out on behalf of my collective the Bx (Re) Birth and Progress Collective. Our work began at the beginning of the pandemic here in New York City after I quickly realized that families were struggling with feeding their infants and maintaining their hygiene. The shutdowns caused many to lose income and consequently could not afford diapers, wipes, and formula for their young children.

We were able to support over 100 families in the Bronx with donations of these supplies for about a year and a half solely on crowdsourced funds from community members far and wide. One notable donator is Mariame Kaba who garnered her social network to drive thousands of funds our way. Recently she won the Ann Snitow Prize and Kaba donated part of her award to our collective. Inspired by ongoing support and her generous donation, we have decided to start the Mariame Kaba Birth Liberation Fund. This fund will be used to provide birth doula services to 40 people by June 30, 2023, who do not have the financial means to do so.
