Remembrance Day

Since 1976, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have pleaded with the Sri Lankan government for the rights of Tamil people. In each case there was no concession for Tamils living in the country. After 1983,  the Sri Lankan Tamils had to fight with the government, so the youth had to take up arms and fight. The Sri Lankan government spent money on weapons and with the help of various countries, received many types  used to destroy Tamils . Tamil young men and women took up arms for self-defense.

For 33 years, an arm conflict lasted between Tamils and the government. In 2009, the Sri Lankan government began to exterminate the Tamil people. November 27 is commemorated every year as the day of remembrance of those who took up arms and fought. On that day, Tamilians from all over the world place Karthikai  (Gloria Lily) flowers and light candles in their memory. The leader of the Tamils, Prabhakaran Velupillai, built a heroes' tombs for them. On that day, the relatives of the heroes will join and pay homage. But the Sri Lankan government has destroyed those tombs after 2009 and built their camps. They not only destroyed the Tamil people but they also destroyed the tombs.
