Field missions
I used to work under data protection rules and respecting confidentiality of all incidents. However I believe that there is no real top secret thing, it is all about whether it is published on media or not yet.
I was in a protection mission with an NGO and it should be all confidential and we had those restricted rules to follow which were every thing is confidential but was it real ?
Once I arrived home after concluding our field mission around 2 am, I opened my mobile phone as we shouldn't use our mobile phones in that mission, to find that I was tagged in a post by a local media news agency on my Facebook profile about concluding our mission! we worked on not publishing such news however all of the people already knew it. Such mission shouldn't be published by media till its conclusion.
I saw many vulnerable victims of different incidents they were all caring about not sharing what has happened to them, we should respect their consent but the same crime is being committed to many other beneficiaries, should they stay silent or publish it?
We had those many papers containing rules for their consent like the privacy setting on World Pulse and even more, to be signed by the beneficiaries, was it really effective on carrying our job or at least stopping the violations to be committed again and again?
As long as its is in secret and private no one is going to get real protection, it needs a lot of bravery and courage to share your story in public and I believe that it is the only way to have a real effective impact. No criminal was punished unless his crime was published and that is at least in our developing and undeveloped societies.
We are being manipulated by an illusion of something called privacy by the real criminals which is in their favor to be protected.
Only when we realize who is really protected by our silence or low voices under the name of privacy, we will start acting for a real aim.
