Psychosocial Support and Resilience Building among university students p

Cases of suicide are on the rise in Kenya, this is also coupled with incidences of GBV.Students are not immune to mental health issues .The negative impacts of Covid 19 has also taken a toll on families including young people. Many youth are not aware of whom they can talk to or where to get support when overwhelmed. The rising costs of living and the inherent hustle and bustle to make ends meet makes parents not have time for their children. In many families , children are being brought up by domestic help and have become stranger to their parents.Young people lack the right outlets to vent out their frustrations and some have resorted to burning school , this has happened in Kenya in the recent past.

Against this backdrop, Haki Nawiri Afrika in collaboration with Innovation for Change-Africa organised a psychosocial support session for university students to provide a safe space for sharing issues of concern, to discuss mental health problems , explore solutions and at the same time understand referral mechanisms and how to handle persons exhibiting symptoms of mental health. The forum further discussed substance abuse, nutrition and mental health, peer pressure and student life balance as well as relationships.
