Pretend play

The putrid stench of fermented beer clouds me.

I feel a presence over me making me tremble with fear.

The hot breath blowing on my face in a steady rhythm.

I count the seconds afraid to move.

Afraid to breathe lest i provoke him.

Maybe if i play dead today he will leave me.

A foolish prayer, but hope is all i have.

Maybe if i play dead today he will not touch me.

A foolish chant , but hope is all i have.

Maybe if i play dead today he will let me live another day.

A foolish wish for a child.

Owned and possessed to perform a dance as ancient as time.

My ragged child forgotten and replaced with a living one.

I do not understand,

The stabbing pain, but i endure it.

Maybe if i play dead today, i won't feel this reality

With my eyes closed i see no end, just darkness as i wait...
