first-story
- I am born in a polygamous family. While in elementary school, at the age of 15 years, my elder brother [from stepmother], married me off. Unfortunately, my husband died, and his family took everything we had worked for. I was only 23 years old. My brother later got me another 'man' who was violent and abusive. I believed that the 'man' would change but all was in vain. After 20yrs, I couldn't take it any more and decided to join with friends and work to improve the life of other women in Mpigi district by providing shelter, food, economic stimulus packages, legal and medical support to victims of Gender Based Violence. Please visit www.sheltermisafehouse.com for testimonies of other women we work with and those we have supported. As a group of survivors of GBV, we hope to make every home safe for every woman and the girl child.
