Invest in yourself and personal growth of others

Growing up in a township filled with dreams and struggles, that is a place I lived. I must say that, indeed, I had seen it all in life, from the painful growth of my childhood to the heart-wrenching loss of my only daughter. I had faced countless hardships, from losing my job to being evicted from my homy. Life had dealt me a series of challenging blows, leaving my bruised and broken. However, I refused to let adversity define me. I was determined to rise above my circumstances and make the best out of every situation.

The lack of resources fueled my desire for a better life, and I vowed to work hard and create a brighter future for myself. With determination in my heart, I pursued education relentlessly, even taking on odd jobs to support my studies.

After years of dedication and perseverance, I landed a promising job in a reputable company. I thought I had finally turned the tide, but fate had different plans. After losing my husband, father of my children, I worked hard to raise them single handed and when I thought I have done it all as a mother, with my only daughter amongst two boys, who was about to graduate as law student but decided to get married prior her graduation which was in 5 months’ time. I couldn’t stop her from being happy not knowing that tragedy will strike my beloved daughter to be a victim to a cruel act of poisoning by her in-laws, died instantly and living a 4-month-old baby who is now about 6 years and still denied her access as a grandmother.  A child I raised for 27 years, and her life taken within 10 days in her marriage. The pain of losing my only child was unimaginable, and I was consumed by grief. My world shattered, and I questioned the purpose of my existence.

In the midst of my despair, I found solace in my memories of my daughter. I remembered my daughter's laughter, my aspirations, and the dreams they had shared. Those memories became a beacon of hope that guided me through the darkest days. I knew my daughter would have wanted me to keep going, to find strength and make a difference in my own life.

With renewed determination, I refused to succumb to despair. I tapped into my resilience and began rebuilding my life brick by brick. I used my pain as a catalyst for change, seeking out new opportunities and avenues to make a difference in the lives of my other kid. I started volunteering at a local community center, offering my time and skills to help those in need. I discovered a passion for counselling and supporting those who were facing similar hardships.

I's unwavering spirit caught the attention of a local entrepreneur, who recognized my potential and offered me a job at his company. With my newfound position, I was not only able to support myself but also create a platform to uplift my spirit. I used my own experiences as a source of inspiration, encouraging my colleagues to persevere in the face of adversity.

Slowly but steadily, I rebuilt my life. I saved money, found a modest townhouse, the same one I recently lost due to COVID-19 job loss. Where I began cultivating a garden filled with beautiful lemon trees. The sour fruit served as a constant reminder of the challenges I had overcome, but also of the sweetness that life could still offer.

I became a symbol of resilience and hope in my neighborhood. People admired me for my strength and admired me for turning my pain into something beautiful. Those close to me and seen my life like a written book, always shared it with others, inspiring others who were facing their own battles. I's lemonade became a symbol of triumph over adversity, reminding everyone that even in the darkest of time it is possible to find light and create a life worth living.

I had indeed seen it all in life. From a painful childhood to the devastating loss of my daughter, I had endured my sorrow. Yet, I never let my circumstances define me. Through my unwavering spirit and determination, I transformed my lemons into sweet lemonade, not only for myself but for the world around me and in so doing, I taught us all the power of resilience, the beauty of turning adversity into opportunity, and the importance of making the most out of life's bitter moments. I hope you do too.
