As a young woman living in Bamenda, I have been directly affected by the ongoing crisis in the English-speaking region of Cameroon. I was kidnapped and tortured, which was a traumatic experience that left me feeling vulnerable and scared. However, I refused to let this experience define me, and I decided to join other women in advocating for peace in my community.
Women have been at the forefront of peacebuilding efforts in Bamenda. We have organized peace marches, engaged in dialogue with community leaders and government officials, and provided support to victims of violence. We have also created safe spaces where women can come together to share their experiences and work towards solutions.
Through our collective efforts, we have been able to bring attention to the ongoing crisis and advocate for lasting solutions that prioritize peace and reconciliation. We have also been able to challenge traditional gender roles and empower women to take on leadership roles in our communities.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including violence and intimidation, we remain committed to building a more peaceful society. Our voices must be heard, and we will continue to work towards a future where all individuals, regardless of gender, can live in safety and security.
