Patriarchy as Heteromorphic

Patriarchy is linked with male dominance over the woman. It is manifested in the form of -Man (Quoting) I am talking, who are you Woman to be talking. I married you, I paid your bride-price which means I own you, you belong to me and I can do whatever I want to do with you and there is nothing anybody can do about it'. Patriarchy in my perspective commences directly or even directly from childhood where the male child is schooled at the cultural and community space that they are superior to the female child so from childhood a boy child already has an ego which he feels should be massaged by the female folk. He tries at every means to exercise his masculinity even to the extent of being violent and vacuous. Then when he gets married at every slightest offense he physically and verbally abuses his wife confident that nothing would happen to him.

Patriarchy in contemporary society is old fashioned, what has it brought to the table? For communities who promote patriarchy what is the common feature of that society? Under-Development in my opinion as countries who promote and recognize the role of Women in the society are communities heading towards  the actualization of Sustainable Development? Patriarchy undervalues women, it promotes Gender Based Violence and stereotypes which limits the capabilities of Women and Girls'.

As the world becomes a global village there must be consistent effort by traditional and religious leaders, the Government, Civil Society Leaders and Relevant stakeholders to effectively put in place mechanisms which systematically addresses practices that promotes patriarchy as  we must all remember Gender Equality is key to Sustainable Development
