PAMOJA NORTH INITIATIVE: STRATEGIC COMMUNITY PLAN

1. Executive Summary

The Pamoja North Initiative is a conceptual targeted, youth-led project designed to unite Kenyan diaspora youth across the North of the UK. The initiative aims to actively dismantle the economic, social, and cultural "North-South Divide" - which has largely remained unchallenged for decades amongst the Kenya UK Diaspora community, by building robust regional networks outside the traditional London bubble. By focusing strategically on the Northwest region including Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, and Wrexham, this initiative bridges major metropolitan centres with key cross-border regions to combat professional isolation and foster deep social cohesion.

2. Core Initiative & Objectives

The initiative operates on the belief that a connected diaspora is an empowered diaspora. It delivers impact through three primary pillars:

  1. The North-South Exchange: A digital and physical network linking youth in northern hubs with established professional channels nationwide.
  2. The Diaspora Innovation Accelerator: A hybrid incubator offering tailored mentorship, digital skills training, and creative collaboration opportunities.
  3. The 'Sauti Yetu' (Our Voice) Advocacy Campaign: A platform designed to amplify the unique challenges faced by northern-based Kenyan youth regarding employment, housing, and integration.

Key Objectives

  1. Unify: Connect isolated Kenyan student and professional networks across northern England and Northeast Wales.
  2. Empower: Provide professional tools and social capital to help youth secure high-skilled roles regionally.
  3. Influence: Lobby local councils and national diaspora bodies to allocate community resources fairly to northern regions.

3. Geographic Hub Strategy

The project maps its operations across four specific target locations to ensure comprehensive regional coverage:

[Manchester Hub] ◄───► [Liverpool Hub] (Urban Anchors)

[Chester Hub] ◄───► [Wrexham Hub] (Cross-Border Links)

  1. Urban Anchors (Manchester & Liverpool): Acting as primary metropolitan bases due to their large universities, corporate markets, and young graduate populations.
  2. Cross-Border Connections (Chester & Wrexham): Serving as vital links, ensuring Kenyan youth in Cheshire and North Wales are fully integrated into the wider regional network rather than geographically isolated.

4. Phase 1 Action Plan: Connection & Networking

Addressing the community's most urgent needs—social connection and professional networking—Phase 1 deploys four immediate programs:

  1. The 'Nyama Choma' Networking Mixers: Rotating, bi-monthly in-person social mixers hosted in central, accessible venues with organised transport carpools for youth travelling from Chester and Wrexham.
  2. The Pamoja Peer-Pairing Scheme: A digital matching system pairing newly arrived international students with established young professionals working in the North West.
  3. The 'Chama' Innovation Circles: Small, localised peer groups meeting monthly in all four cities to share career tips, collaborate on creative projects, and build deep personal friendships.
  4. Inter-City Social Tournaments: Friendly sports and cultural trivia days held at central regional venues to physically bring youth across all four hubs together.

5. Planned Impact Metrics

To ensure accountability and measurable social change, the initiative will track the following benchmarks within its first 12 months:

  1. Establish four active, self-sustaining youth chapters across the target cities.
  2. Train and Mentor up to 150 young Kenyans annually in leadership, civic advocacy, and tech-focused careers.
  3. Launch a dedicated digital portal to map Kenyan-owned businesses, professional mentors, and emergency support services in the North.
  4. Reduce the reported feelings of professional isolation among young graduates moving away from southern England.
