Online Safety Training for Mums and Teachers

There has been an alarming increase in online child abuse, which has led to the doubling of suspected online child exploitation cases in Africa. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of our lives. With schools closed, and lock-downs imposed, many children and young people are spending all their time at home. Much of that time may be online, and often they will spend more time online than usual.

Starting from the 4th, of December 2020 to the 11th, of December, we launched an Online Safety Virtual Roadshow in collaboration with Google across 6 states in Nigeria for Mothers, Educators and School administrators. We understand technology’s ability to unlock creativity and create opportunities, but there is a duty to equip users with the tools and resources to make safe choices online and to curb risks like Cyberbullying, Online sexual abuse, sending/receiving potentially harmful content, etc.

Although, in the course of the virtual training, we had some mothers request for future hands-on sessions and managing their devices, operating their family links and other parental controls.

We implemented 20 sessions virtually to empower parents, teachers and guardians; imparting online safety tips to children so that they can learn how to be safe and confident explorers of the internet, while staying safe online.
