How far would you go to make a good story better? I'm going to Juarez and elsewhere in Chihuahua, Mexico, to conduct research for my historical novel about Mexican and Chinese immigrants and their mixed race offspring. At the beginning of my novel I follow a fictional family through the Chihuahua desert as they flee the Mexican Revolution in 1910. Ironically, my information-gathering will send me into Chihuahua in the midst of the modern drug war. Why go?
